What brought you to KPU and your program of study?

I initially chose KPU for its convenient location, small class sizes, and focus on practical learning. However, it was only after starting my courses that I truly appreciated the academic rigor and high quality of the program. The BBA in Entrepreneurial Leadership provided a comprehensive business education across a wide spectrum of fields. Thanks to its extensive use of case studies, industry projects, and hands-on learning opportunities, I feel thoroughly prepared for professional success.

Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?

Today, I serve as the Director of Academic Services for the Robert H. Lee Graduate School at the UBC Sauder School of Business. In this role, I have the privilege of overseeing the academic journey, student experience, and program delivery for six business master's programs and the Diploma in Accounting. It is incredibly rewarding to shape the educational landscape for the next generation of business leaders.

Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?

KPU provided a strong foundation of both technical and leadership skills that have been invaluable in my career. From budgeting and financial management to strategic planning and project management, the curriculum covered a wide spectrum of vital business functions. What truly brought these concepts to life, however, were the experiential learning opportunities. Immersive experiences like the Capstone project and various industry group projects allowed me to develop my critical thinking and team-building skills in real-world contexts, preparing me directly for the demands of higher education leadership.

What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?

First, focus on building your network, remember that it’s often not just about who you know, but who they know. Cultivating these connections early will open doors to unexpected career and business opportunities. Second, fully invest yourself in your studies right now. The curriculum and teaching methods at KPU are intentionally designed for your long-term success; while it may feel challenging or even silly in the moment, putting in the effort now will pay off immensely later. Additionally, practice humility and seek guidance early. Utilizing KPU’s extensive resources and asking for help when you need it is a strength that sets you up for future growth. Finally, discover your unique competitive advantage. In a rapidly evolving workforce shaped by AI, you need to clearly articulate what makes your human perspective, creativity, and problem-solving skills different from what automated tools can deliver.
