Technical Management and Services - 2023

What brought you to KPU and your program of study?

I completed my bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and worked for two years in a related field in my home country. Over time, I developed a strong interest in moving toward management and leadership, and began exploring further study opportunities internationally.

While researching programs, I considered several factors including cost, career relevance, and practical learning opportunities. That is when I came across KPU’s Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Technical Management and Services.

I chose KPU because of its strong reputation for practical, career-focused education. The program aligned well with my goals and offered the international exposure I was looking for. I am glad I chose KPU—it has played an important role in shaping my academic and professional journey.

Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?

I currently work in healthcare in British Columbia. In this role, I focus on supporting safe, high-quality care for patients by working closely with various healthcare teams. My work involves identifying opportunities to improve care processes, strengthening patient safety practices, and supporting initiatives that enhance the overall patient experience.

Overall, my role is centered on improving healthcare quality and ensuring that services meet the standards.

Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?

Many of the skills I developed at KPU continue to be directly useful in my career today. This includes writing professional reports, creating spreadsheets, working with data visualization, and properly citing and referencing information in a structured way.

Case-based learning and classroom discussions helped me better understand real-world professional environments. I also gained foundational knowledge in areas such as accounting, finance, and economics, which strengthened my overall business understanding.

In addition, I worked as a Student Assistant with KPU Study Abroad for a year, which was a valuable experience. In that role, I developed communication and design skills, including using Canva to create social media content. I continue to use these skills today in creating newsletters and professional communications in my current role.

KPU has also given me the confidence to take on more complex challenges. Next year, I will be starting my MBA journey, and I see strong continuity between my KPU education and my future studies.

What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?

Make full use of every opportunity KPU offers—whether that is engaging with professors, participating in workshops, joining study abroad programs, applying for internships and co-op roles, or getting involved in on-campus volunteering and networking events.

Active participation in class discussions, group projects, and peer learning is equally important, as these experiences help build both knowledge and professional connections.

KPU provides a strong academic foundation, but it is important to apply that learning in real-world contexts. Stay consistent, remain curious, and focus on continuous improvement rather than perfection.
