Human Resources Management - 2019

What brought you to KPU and your program of study?

I chose KPU and the Melville School of Business because of its practical, applied learning approach. The Human Resources Management program stood out as it combines business strategy with people-focused problem solving. I was particularly drawn to the opportunity to gain real-world experience through co‑op, which allowed me to apply what I learned in the classroom directly to the workplace.

Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?

I currently work as a People & Culture Manager, where I partner with leaders and teams to support business objectives through effective people strategies. My day-to-day responsibilities include advising leaders on employee relations, supporting workforce planning, overseeing HR processes such as compensation and policy implementation, and driving initiatives that improve employee experience and leadership capability. I also work on projects that enhance HR operations, including the use of technology and AI tools to streamline support for leaders.

Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?

Curiosity, adaptability, and strong communication have been essential throughout my career. Equally important has been pairing empathy with accountability—caring about people while still driving clarity, alignment, and results.

What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?

You don’t need to have everything figured out right away. Focus on learning, building relationships, and saying yes to opportunities that help you grow—even if they push you outside your comfort zone. The skills and habits you develop early on will matter more than having a perfectly defined plan.
