SHASHANK OBEROI (Mr.)
Marketing Management - 2026
What brought you to KPU and your program of study?
After completing my commerce background in India, I wanted to transition into a dynamic, practical field that would help me build a successful career in Canada. I chose KPU because of its strong reputation for hands-on learning and small class sizes. The 2-year Marketing Management diploma was the perfect fit to build on my business background, giving me the strategic skills and confidence I use today in my consulting career and have my own business running in the upcoming years.
Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?
I am currently working as a Sales and Energy Consultant in the tech and sustainability sector. My day-to-day responsibilities involve consulting with clients on energy efficiency solutions, managing client accounts, and driving sales growth. Outside of my corporate role, I also apply my marketing skills to digital content creation, managing an active Instagram page to build my personal brand and connect with a wider community.
Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?
The hands-on marketing projects and consumer behavior insights I gained at KPU have been incredibly valuable. They taught me how to analyze target audiences and build trust, which I use every day to connect with clients in sales. Additionally, balancing a rigorous diploma program developed the strong time-management skills that allow me to successfully manage my consulting career, fitness goals, and content creation today.
What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?
My biggest advice is to leverage KPU’s hands-on approach to build practical skills early, and don't be afraid to pursue multiple passions. Use what you learn in the classroom to start real-world projects whether that's launching a personal brand, networking, or gaining experience in your industry. Balancing your studies with extracurriculars, fitness, or creative outlets builds the resilience and time-management skills you need to stand out and succeed after graduation.
