What brought you to KPU and your program of study?

I started at KPU right after I graduated from high school. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but I knew I wanted to pursue an education. I chose KPU because of the wide variety of courses they offered, and I applied under General Science. My first year flew by, and I enjoyed most of my classes, but my favourite was physics. The instructors were great, and I enjoyed the material.

After doing a bit of research, I found that KPU offered a Bachelor of Science in Physics for Modern Technology. After learning what courses I would get to take and seeing that part of the degree involved a work experience component, I knew that I wanted to declare my major as Physics for Modern Technology.

Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?

I currently work as an electronic manufacturing and assembly technician. My main responsibilities include manufacturing and repairing radio remote controls used for industrial equipment. On a day-to-day basis, I assemble components, troubleshoot and repair units, and ensure that finished products meet quality and performance standards.

Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?

The most valuable skills I have gained at KPU so far come from my physics and science courses. Although the material itself has been useful, the problem-solving skills I developed have been especially useful in my career, particularly when troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with electronics

In addition, lab courses helped me become more comfortable working with equipment, following procedures carefully, and paying attention to detail. These experiences have translated well into my job. Overall, KPU has helped me build both the technical knowledge and practical thinking skills that I use regularly in my role as an electronic manufacturing and assembly technician.

What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?

My advice to current KPU students is to be genuinely passionate about their coursework and take the time to really understand what they are learning, not just in class but also at home. Putting in extra effort outside of lectures, whether by reviewing material, practicing problems, or exploring topics further, can make a big difference in not just passing the test but also gaining a deeper understanding of the material.

I would also like to emphasize the importance of networking. Networking is arguably one the most important factors in finding a job. Not only does networking open up oppurtunites but it opens you up to knowledgeable people that can provide guidance and support as you move through your career.
