What brought you to KPU and your program of study?

I was an internationally educated nurse from the Philippines who wanted to become licensed to practice in British Columbia. I chose KPU because of its strong reputation and excellent support for students in the GNIE program.

Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?

I am a Clinical Nurse Educator at Vancouver Coastal Health, where I support nurses in translating evidence-based knowledge into safe, high-quality patient care. My day-to-day responsibilities include assessing learning needs, providing orientation and education, and supporting the ongoing professional development of nursing staff.

Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?

The GNIE program at KPU strengthened my clinical knowledge, critical thinking, and communication skills, which have been essential throughout my nursing career. The supportive learning environment and emphasis on evidence-based practice helped prepare me to confidently transition into the Canadian healthcare system and grow into my current role as a Clinical Nurse Educator.

What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?

Take every opportunity to learn, ask questions, and build meaningful relationships with your instructors, peers, and clinical mentors. Stay open to new experiences, continue investing in your professional growth, and remember that compassion, adaptability, and lifelong learning are just as important as clinical skills in building a successful nursing career.
