What brought you to KPU and your program of study?

When I was exploring the idea of coming to Canada as an international student, I knew I wanted more than just a degree, I wanted to be part of a community and grow in a meaningful way. While researching different options, KPU stood out to me because it felt welcoming and had a great balance of opportunities and strong cultural values, which made it feel like the right place to start my journey.
I come from a science background and always had an interest in cybersecurity. That’s what led me to choose Computer Information Systems, so I could explore that interest further and find the right direction for my career.

Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?

After completing my Business Fundamentals course at KPU, I realized I wanted a career that combined my strengths in sales and communication while still being part of the tech industry. Since graduating, I have been working as an Account Manager at EC Managed IT, which is also a career partner of KPU.
In my role, I focus on managing client relationships and acting as the bridge between clients and our technical team. My day-to-day involves understanding each client’s business needs, guiding them on the right IT solutions, and making sure everything is aligned with their long-term goals. I work closely with internal teams to coordinate projects, review solutions, and ensure our clients are well-supported.
I am also responsible for growing relationships and onboarding new clients, and I’ve had the opportunity to successfully bring in and support several organizations where we now manage their IT.
During my time at KPU, I was a Community Ambassador, which really helped me build strong communication and people skills. I still use those skills today, as I’m often the face of my company at business chamber events, networking events, and client engagements. I enjoy building connections and representing my team in the community.

Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?

During my time at KPU, I was involved in several roles such as an Orientation Leader, Community Ambassador, and a Research Assistant for the Social Incubator course development. I was actually recommended for the research role by my professor, Kevin Peter, which was a great opportunity and a big confidence boost for me.
Being part of these different areas at KPU really helped me grow, both personally and professionally. It showed employers my willingness to step up, be involved, and go beyond just academics. These experiences shaped my confidence and communication skills, which I now use every day in my career.
Today, I am often the face of my company at events, networking sessions, and client meetings. The outgoing personality and people skills I developed through my involvement at KPU have played a huge role in that.
At the same time, my coursework, especially in cybersecurity and technical subjects, gave me the technical foundation I needed. It helps me understand client needs better and confidently guide them toward the right IT solutions.

What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?

During my co-op journey, I wasn’t able to secure a co-op position at the time, even though I had the opportunity to gain interview experience. Interestingly, I was later hired full-time by the same organization where I had applied for co-op a year earlier. That experience taught me that setbacks don’t define your path sometimes things come together at the right time.
My advice to current and future students is to make the most of the resources and support that KPU offers. The faculty is always there to guide you, but you have to take the initiative and reach out.
As an international student, it can feel challenging at first, especially when you are still learning how things work. But it’s very important to step out of your comfort zone, build meaningful connections, and stay engaged. Those relationships can support you throughout your journey and open doors you may not expect.
Most importantly, don’t get discouraged if things don’t work out right away. Keep trying, stay consistent, and trust the process. Every missed opportunity can lead to something better. KPU offers so many opportunities, you just need to show up, stay involved, and put yourself out there.
