Human Resources Management - 2021

What brought you to KPU and your program of study?

When I chose Kwantlen Polytechnic University, one of the things that stood out to me was its small class sizes and student-focused approach to learning. As an international student from India, I was looking for a university where I could feel supported and have meaningful interactions with my professors and classmates. The smaller classroom environment made it easier to ask questions, participate in discussions, and build strong connections with both faculty and peers.

I enrolled in the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Human Resources Management because I was passionate about understanding how organizations can create positive workplaces and help people succeed in their careers. Looking back, choosing this program was one of the most rewarding decisions I have made. Through engaging class discussions, real-world case studies, and collaborative projects, I gained not only technical HR knowledge but also a deeper appreciation for the impact that people practices have on individuals and organizations.

My time at KPU challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, develop new skills, and grow both personally and professionally. As an international student from India, completing this program was a significant achievement that filled me with pride and confidence. It helped me discover my strengths, build meaningful relationships, and prepare for a career where I can make a positive difference in the workplace. The experience reinforced my passion for human resources and gave me the foundation to pursue opportunities that I once only imagined.

Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?

I currently work as a Job Architecture Lead with Provincial Health Services Authority on the BC Health Workday Program, a large-scale initiative focused on modernizing human resources processes across multiple health organizations in British Columbia.
In my role, I lead job architecture and employee mapping activities, supporting the development and implementation of Workday's job profile framework. My day-to-day responsibilities include collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders, including HR, Compensation, HRIS, and operational leaders, to establish and maintain a standardized job architecture that accurately reflects organizational needs. I also contribute to the development of governance processes and data standards to ensure consistency and sustainability across participating health authorities.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is contributing to a transformative initiative that will support thousands of healthcare employees across the province. The opportunity to bring together complex workforce data, job structures, and organizational requirements into a cohesive and standardized framework has been both challenging and fulfilling.

Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?

One of the most valuable things I gained from KPU was a strong understanding of compensation, HR analytics, and data-driven decision-making. The program helped me develop analytical skills that allow me to interpret complex workforce data, identify trends, and support strategic HR decisions. These skills have been particularly valuable in my current role, where I work extensively with job architecture, employee mapping, and large-scale workforce data to support the BC Health Workday Program.

What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?

My advice to current KPU students is to stay curious, embrace new opportunities, and never stop learning. Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone some of the most rewarding experiences and career opportunities come from taking on challenges. Trust your journey, stay persistent, and remember that every experience is helping you build the skills and confidence needed for future success.
