What brought you to KPU and your program of study?

As a person with a disability I was actually recommended by several people to enroll in the Employment and Community Studies program. Considering that KPU had a campus that was close to home it seemed like a no brainer. Enrolling in the EACS program was one of the best things I’ve ever done. It gave me a community I had never had and ignited my passion for advocacy.

Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?

My current position is an Administrative and Operations Coordinator for True North Executor Solutions Inc. In this role I help with internal operations and I manage our social media. My main day to day responsibilities are to create new files for any new projects in our file management system, complete inventories for any projects that need them and make instagram posts to share what we do.

Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?

In the EACS program there were a lot of lessons about how to find work and how to keep a job, but the lesson that was the most important to me was how to advocate for myself and others. Learning that one skill not only opened my world up but it also helped me get my current job.

What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?

Always advocate for yourself, Use your voice and speak your truth even when it’s hard to do, meaningful change doesn’t happen if you just stay silent. That goes for on the job and the outside world.
