What brought you to KPU and your program of study?

My love for horses is what initially inspired me to study Farrier Science at KPU. Once I began the program, I discovered a genuine passion for hoof care and the important role a farrier plays in maintaining a horse's health and performance. KPU gave me the knowledge, hands-on experience, and confidence to pursue a professional career as a farrier and build a successful business doing what I love.

Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?

I currently own and operate my own farrier business, where I provide hoof care services for horses of all disciplines. My day-to-day responsibilities include trimming and shoeing horses, evaluating hoof health and movement, working with owners to address each horse's individual needs, scheduling appointments, maintaining client relationships, and managing the daily operations of my business.

Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?

The hands-on learning at KPU was the most valuable part of my education. The program gave me a strong understanding of hoof anatomy, trimming and shoeing techniques, and how proper hoof care affects a horse's overall health and performance. Just as importantly, it taught me to think critically, solve problems, and communicate effectively with horse owners. Those skills have been essential in helping me build and run my own farrier business.

What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?

Take every opportunity to learn, ask questions, and gain hands-on experience. Building relationships with instructors, classmates, and professionals in the industry can open doors you never expected. Don't be afraid to start small—every horse you work on is a chance to improve your skills. Success doesn't happen overnight, but if you're passionate, work hard, and continue learning, you'll build a career you can be proud of.
