What brought you to KPU and your program of study?
I came to KPU for the Special Education Teacher Assistant program and was so impressed by the small class sizes, approachable professors, and close-knit classmates that I stayed to complete my bachelor’s degree.
Can you briefly describe your current position and your main day to day responsibilities?
Currently, I serve as a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Founder of Luma Vita Counselling Inc., a private practice I established three years ago. Our team consists of diverse counsellors specializing in supporting individuals, couples, and families across various therapeutic approaches.
My role blends clinical work with business ownership—each day is dynamic, involving direct client counselling, strategic marketing, administrative oversight, and mentoring fellow counsellors. This dual focus allows me to combine my passion for mental health with entrepreneurial leadership.
Which skills, knowledge, or experiences from KPU have been most valuable in your career so far?
KPU instilled in me the value of community—its close-knit environment and collaborative spirit have shaped how I approach my work. This ethos is reflected in Luma Vita Counselling Inc., where we prioritize connection among our team through regular bonding activities like boating, yoga, and seasonal events such as pumpkin carving and clay throwing.
It’s also inspired our commitment to supporting the Fraser Valley community, including offering discounts to KPU students and alumni and securing grants for school-aged youth in need of counselling. At its core, it’s about lifting others up, a principle I admired during my time at KPU and continue to carry forward in my practice.
What advice would you give current KPU students who want to build a successful career after graduation?
My advice? Start before you feel ready. Confidence grows with action—so take that first step, even if it’s small. Surround yourself with a strong support system (mentors, peers, or communities) that will uplift you along the way. And most importantly, trust in your abilities. Success isn’t about having all the answers upfront; it’s about learning, adapting, and persevering.
